Flight fatigue calculator

How tiring will this flight actually feel?

A ten-hour daytime flight in extra legroom is not the same experience as ten overnight hours in a middle seat. Calculate the difference.

Describe the flight

This quick score focuses on fatigue from a single flight. The full calculator adds routes, time zones and connections.

Why flight duration alone is a poor fatigue measure

Elapsed hours matter, but they interact with the biological night, useful sleep opportunity and physical restriction. An overnight flight can overlap the strongest circadian sleep drive, while the same number of daytime hours may create more physical than sleep-related fatigue.

TIMING

When you fly

Night departures add sleep pressure even before time-zone effects are considered.

SLEEP

Whether you can rest

Broken cabin sleep and high sensitivity make overnight hours more costly.

SEAT

How you are seated

Standard economy, extra legroom, exit rows and lie-flat seats produce different physical loads.

How tiring is a 10-hour flight?

There is no single answer. In this calculator, ten hours creates a substantial journey load, but the result can move sharply depending on daytime versus overnight timing, your sleep ability and whether the seat is standard economy, extra legroom or lie-flat. That variation is exactly why the inputs stay visible next to the score.

Flight fatigue questions

Is an overnight flight always more tiring?

Not for everyone, but it usually creates more sleep disruption. A traveler who sleeps well in a lie-flat seat may experience less fatigue than someone who cannot sleep in standard economy.

Does extra legroom make a real difference?

It reduces physical restriction, especially for taller travelers and longer flights. It does not turn an economy seat into a bed or remove circadian disruption.

What is not included in this quick score?

Jet lag, layovers, delays, airport queues and the rest of your itinerary are excluded. Use the full Travel Difficulty Calculator for those factors.
