Use expected wheel time without meal stops. Keep a separate margin for traffic and delays.

This score cannot determine whether you are fit to drive. Never use it to justify continuing when tired.

What increases fatigue on a long drive?

Time behind the wheel matters, but it is not the only factor. Short sleep, driving during normal sleep hours, monotonous roads and pressure to arrive on time can combine. Breaks may help restore attention temporarily, but they do not replace adequate sleep.

A planning score, not a safety clearance

The calculator does not know your medical condition, medication, alcohol use, real-time alertness or unexpected traffic. If you notice yawning, drifting attention, missed signs or lane-position errors, find a safe place to stop.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I plan a break?

The tool compares planned breaks with a rough two-hour rhythm, but two hours is not a safe maximum. Stop earlier whenever concentration declines and follow local official advice.

Does coffee remove driving fatigue?

Caffeine may temporarily increase alertness for some people, but it does not replace sleep and can create false confidence. Do not use this estimate as permission to continue.

Why does night driving score higher?

Darkness increases visual demand and overnight driving often overlaps with the body’s normal sleep period. Individual responses vary greatly.
